The release of Fable has been pushed to 2026, which isn’t the news fans were hoping for, especially those eager to dive into its achievements this year. This change significantly alters the lineup of upcoming Xbox exclusives. Nonetheless, Craig Duncan, the head of Xbox Game Studios, assures us it’s “definitely worth the wait.”
Playground Games, the developers behind the new Fable, initially planned for it to launch later this year. Craig Duncan expresses his enthusiasm, saying, “We’re incredibly excited about the progress and where Playground is with the project. We had previously announced a 2025 release, but we’ve decided to give Fable more time, and now it’s set for 2026.” Duncan understands that this might not be welcome news for everyone but insists it will be worth the extra wait, expressing his unwavering confidence in Playground Games.
Reflecting on the studio’s impressive track record with the acclaimed Forza Horizon series, he highlights their expertise. “When you consider their history and legacy, especially with Forza Horizon—those games were critically acclaimed, award-winning, and beautiful, with great gameplay. Now, they’re bringing that expertise to Fable,” Duncan elaborates. “Imagine the iconic visuals we’ve come to expect from Playground Games, combined with engaging gameplay, British humor, and their unique take on Albion. It’s inspired by past iterations of the franchise, but with their distinct twist.”
Duncan continues, “Honestly, it’s the most beautifully realized version of Albion you’ll ever see. We’re thrilled about what’s to come and want the community to know that these decisions are always made with the best interest of the games, teams, and ultimately the players in mind. It all leads to the best possible gaming experience.”
