World of Warcraft recently announced that the Plunderstorm battle royale mode will be wrapping up on February 25, coinciding with the release of Patch 11.1. This gives avid players two weeks to race for those coveted pirate-themed mounts and armor before they disappear. Right on the heels of this update, fans can look forward to The War Within Season 2, launching on March 4.
Plunderstorm made its triumphant return in January 2025, following a popular debut in Dragonflight Patch 10.2.6. Set against the backdrop of the Arathi Basin, this swashbuckling PvP mode pits 60 players in a battle to collect Plunder and knock out rivals. In its second season, Blizzard spiced things up with reworked abilities and items based on player feedback. They also introduced the Plunderstore to make spending your Plunder on cosmetic rewards a breeze and let players queue for Plunderstorm even while tackling The War Within.
Despite its successful run, February 25 marks the second farewell for Plunderstorm. Its conclusion aligns with the launch of the Undermined content update for The War Within. This new patch ushers players into The Undermine, the subterranean goblin city, where they face off against Jastor Gallywix in the climactic Liberation of Undermine raid. Expect this update to shake things up with a new lineup of Mythic+ Dungeons, the Undermine raid, and tweaks to class balance starting March 4.
For those wondering when to seize the chance for Plunderstorm rewards, the answer is pretty clear: you have until February 25, with Patch 11.1. Players have the opportunity to rack up as many rewards as possible, from mounts and pets to transmogrification sets. Hit a milestone like amassing 5,000 Plunder and you’ll find a Storm-Singed Plunder Chest landing in your in-game mail, packed with tokens for loot chests containing class-specific armor of impressive item levels.
There’s a bit of uncertainty about whether these loot chests will vanish before Patch 11.1 hits, so a word to the wise: redeem them promptly. Although Plunderstorm will soon depart Azeroth, the door is open for it to make a comeback with new maps sometime down the road. Here’s hoping we see it chart a course back in the future.
