Star Wars Outlaws had a bumpy ride when it initially launched in August. The game not only received a lukewarm reception from critics, but players also encountered a slew of technical hiccups. These ranged from minor visual distractions to more severe issues that could potentially disrupt gameplay altogether. Among the most notorious bugs was one that forced some PS5 users to erase their save files completely to eliminate persistent technical glitches, a drastic measure that effectively reset their game progress.
However, Star Wars Outlaws has undergone significant improvements since that rocky start. Ubisoft, taking customer feedback seriously, has diligently rolled out multiple updates over the past few months. These updates have steadily enhanced the overall gaming experience. Yet, the recent Title Update has introduced so many critical fixes and new features that it easily surpasses all previous updates, addressing even the loudest of player grievances.
In this latest update, the developers focused heavily on refining the game’s stealth mechanics, which have been a point of contention. With the new 1.4.0 update, failing a stealth sequence no longer automatically ends the mission if you’re spotted. Plus, players won’t be forced into stealth in areas controlled by syndicates. This comes alongside an upgraded detection system that alerts players when enemies start to notice them and offers a visual cue if an imminent takedown might alert nearby foes. A notable fix is that whistling will now attract more than just a single enemy.
When it comes to combat, Star Wars Outlaws has upped its game significantly. The Title Update introduces weak points on enemies, and if players target these areas, they’re treated to specific death animations based on the body part hit. Kay’s blaster has been fine-tuned to offer a more rewarding shooting experience, with improved recoil and spread for precise action. Additionally, headshots pack more punch now. The game’s enemy AI has seen a lift as well, with adversaries now utilizing cover more intelligently and reacting to nearby explosions by staggering.
On a lighter note, Kay can now put away two-handed weapons while riding a speeder or scaling obstacles, adding a more fluid feel to her movements.
Visually, Star Wars Outlaws had some rough patches at launch, notably during dialogue scenes. The 1.4.0 update addresses this by enhancing facial animations and refining cinematic visuals, resulting in much clearer and more engaging storytelling.
For players who’ve been on the fence, the addition of the game’s first story DLC might just be the tipping point. Titled ‘Wild Card,’ this new content sees Kay Vess teaming up with the charismatic Lando Calrissian in a tense Sabacc tournament that promises high stakes and greater adventure.
If the looming enhancements weren’t inviting enough, the DLC could persuade even the most skeptical players to give Star Wars Outlaws a shot. In this game, you’ll plunge into the Star Wars universe’s open world, traversing new and familiar planets that brim with opportunities. As Kay Vess, a fledgling rogue, you’re on a quest for freedom and a fresh start, maneuvering your way through the galaxy’s perilous crime networks. Whether you’re flying through cityscapes on a speeder or navigating the cosmos in your ship, The Trailblazer, each choice molds your reputation and opens up a galaxy of possibilities in this action-packed adventure.
