Valve isn’t rushing to launch a brand-new version of the Steam Deck just yet, but fans of their top gaming handheld will be pleased to hear about an exciting new edition on its way. Soon available is the Steam Deck OLED, now coming in a striking limited edition white variant.
Named the “Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White,” this fresh look retains all the same specifications as the current 1TB model. However, it will see a slight price bump, ringing in at $679, which is $30 more than its standard counterpart. Interested buyers can snag this sleek device starting Monday, November 18th.
Beyond its eye-catching white and gray design, buyers will also receive a matching white carrying case and a microfiber cleaning cloth with their purchase.
This isn’t Valve’s first foray into color experimentation. Previously, they released a limited edition smoky translucent shell for the Steam Deck OLED that quickly sold out, despite some minor aesthetic cracking issues. The white edition aims to have a smoother rollout, hitting markets across the globe, including the US, UK, Europe, Canada, and as far as Japan, South Korea, and other regions through Valve’s partner, Komodo. Distribution of this edition will happen proportionally across all these territories.
To combat potential scalpers, Valve has implemented a one-per-account purchase rule for the white Steam Deck, requiring accounts to have at least one transaction before November 2024.
In a press statement, Valve expressed their interest in market feedback with this second limited edition OLED, stating, “We’re eager to see the response and learn from it to guide our future decisions on new color variants.”
For those who don’t manage to snag this official version, third-party options exist. Companies like Jsaux and dbrand offer alternate backplates or skins for those who crave customization. Still, there’s nothing quite like getting the original exclusive edition.
Valve didn’t stop with just a color change tease. They hinted at what’s planned for the Steam Deck’s future, mentioning continuous software updates and future hardware developments.
From the images released, the new color scheme seems to channel a blend of nostalgic Wii U vibes with a hint of iPod elegance. It’ll be interesting to see if this stylish twist entices current owners to expand or replace their devices.
