Valve has rolled out the Steam Deck OLED for its certified refurbished lineup, and it’s great news for gamers looking for a deal. You can now snag these refurbished OLED models directly from Valve, and the savings are pretty impressive. They’re offering these at a 20% discount compared to their brand-new versions.
Two models are part of this program: the 1TB OLED and the 512GB Steam Deck OLED. If you’re eyeing the 1TB version, it’s going for $519, while the 512GB model is available at $439. To put that into perspective, a brand-new 1TB model would set you back $649, and the 512GB one comes in at $549. This means you’re saving $120 on the 1TB model and $110 on the 512GB variant. Interestingly, you can get the refurbished 1TB OLED for $30 less than what you’d pay for a brand-new 512GB OLED.
Now, if you’re considering new purchases, the only option that comes cheaper than these refurbished OLEDs is the 256GB LCD model from the previous generation, priced at $399. While Valve does offer refurbished LCD models, those are currently out of stock across all capacities—the 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB. Plus, you can no longer purchase the 512GB and 64GB LCD models new.
It’s worth pointing out that the Steam Deck OLED brings more to the table than just a fancier screen. Sure, it shifts from an LCD to an OLED display, but that’s only part of the story. The OLED model boasts a 90Hz refresh rate and a larger 7.4-inch screen with HDR support, delivering up to 1000 nits of peak brightness in HDR mode (compared to 400 nits on the LCD). The older LCD version, on the other hand, was a 7-inch screen, maxing out at 60Hz without HDR.
Under the hood, the upgrades continue. The battery has jumped from a 40Whr capacity to a more robust 50Whr, which Valve claims can provide between 3 to 12 hours of gameplay, depending on what you’re playing. This is a nice bump from the 2-8 hours you’d get with the LCD version. Additionally, RAM has been upgraded from 5500MT/s LPDDR5 to a faster 6400 MT/s LPDDR5. The AMD APU also saw enhancements, moving from a 7nm to a 6nm process node.
These refurbished Steam Deck OLED units are available in select regions, including Canada, the EU, the UK, and the US. Plus, they come with the same one-year warranty as new models, and depending on where you live, it might even be longer.
