Virtuix has unveiled an exciting tourism app tailored for its Omni One VR treadmill, bringing a new dimension to virtual travel. This innovative app gives users the chance to stroll through some of the world’s most famous spots without leaving their living room.
Launching on March 6th, the TREKS app is specifically designed for the Omni One system. By blending immersive video with the unique feature of physical walking, users can virtually trek through breathtaking locations such as the Grand Canyon, New York’s Central Park, and the historical corridors of Riyadh’s Fort Masmak.
Developed by Virtuix Studios, TREKS will be available exclusively on the Omni One Game Store for $30. Initially, the app will feature four main destinations:
- Grand Canyon: Traverse the trails and take in the sweeping views of this monumental natural formation.
- Niagara Falls: Witness the thunderous power of these iconic falls from both the American and Canadian perspectives.
- New York City: Explore renowned landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
- Saudi Arabia: Immerse yourself in the historical richness of the Fort Masmak and admire the architectural beauty of the Al Rajhi Mosque.
Virtuix Studios has plans to expand the app’s selection in the future. They intend to offer additional locations as downloadable content, featuring more landmarks, historic sites, and natural marvels. The company also points out that an hour of walking in TREKS can help burn approximately 500 calories.
“With TREKS, the experience is about much more than just visuals,” said Jan Goetgeluk, CEO of Virtuix. “You’re actively moving through these destinations. It’s a fantastic way to stay fit while visiting some of the most iconic sites around the globe. Fitness goes hand in hand with adventure, and TREKS offers both in a refreshing way.”
The Omni One system is priced at $3,495, which includes the VR treadmill and a customized Pico 4 Enterprise headset. This setup supports a range of applications, whether running directly through its built-in chip or when connected to a PC with VR capabilities, either wired or wirelessly.
Last month, it was revealed that Omni One now boasts over 55 compatible titles, with new exciting additions like Arizona Sunshine Remake, Arizona Sunshine 2, and Into The Radius.
Moreover, the all-in-one system is also compatible with SteamVR games, thanks to its Omni Connect PC Driver. This feature allows users to customize controls and tweak settings to enhance games not designed specifically for immersive walking.
The TREKS app, combined with the robust capabilities of the Omni One, promises a truly engaging virtual travel and fitness experience.
