Sony Reveals PSVR 2’s Top Downloaded Games for 2024

Sony has rolled out its annual list highlighting the most downloaded games across its PlayStation platforms for 2024, and while there hasn’t been a massive shake-up, the results weren’t too shocking.

With PSVR 2 nearing its two-year mark, some critics have argued that Sony’s PS5-compatible VR headset hasn’t received the attention it deserves since its debut in February 2023. The main contention being the absence of exclusive titles and the robust developer backing that the original PSVR enjoyed. However, die-hard fans of the headset beg to differ.

There’s no denying the capabilities of PSVR 2. It lets developers go all out on graphics and resolution, outshining even Meta’s Quest 3. Plus, it got a wired adapter release from Sony last June that enables playing PC VR games. Nonetheless, when it comes to what games players are actually grabbing from the PlayStation Store, the numbers tell the real story.

It’s no surprise that the wildly addictive Beat Saber (2018) dominated the charts in both North America and Europe. It’s often one of the first recommendations for newcomers to VR worlds.

Metro Awakening by Vertigo Games was among the few new releases of 2024 to crack the list. It’s understandable, considering it was launched in November 2024, giving it a short window to climb the ranks. Similarly, Legendary Tales from Urban Wolf Games, which received its 1.0 release across major VR platforms in February after a long run on Steam Early Access, also made its mark.

Putting it into context, Vertigo Games’ Arizona Sunshine 2 (2023) got a late December 2023 release, barely leaving it any time to make it into the top downloads list for that year.
