Sony has made an exciting announcement today: starting next month, the PSVR 2 will get a permanent price drop to $400. This PS5 and PC-compatible VR headset initially hit the markets nearly two years ago with a price tag of $550. Despite not drawing much attention at its two-year mark and being absent from the recent State of Play, Sony is now reducing the PSVR 2’s price to $400 / €450 / £400 / ¥66,980, effective in March.
Interestingly, this new price point applies to both the basic PSVR bundle, which includes the headset itself, two Sense controllers, and headphones, as well as the Horizon Call of the Mountain hardware bundle, which debuted at $600 back in February 2023.
It’s worth mentioning that PSVR 2 has been part of numerous sales in the past. Notably, in November 2024, Sony slashed the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle’s price to a mere $350, suggesting we might see even better deals in the future.
Sony has spotlighted several high-grade PSVR 2 games in conjunction with this pricing update. Titles such as Skydance’s Behemoth, Metro Awakening VR, and Alien: Rogue Incursion feature prominently, alongside eagerly anticipated releases like Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk. However, it’s important to note that Sony hasn’t fully backed PSVR 2 with their own production efforts.
The releases for PSVR 2 from Sony include just a few first-party titles like Horizon Call of the Mountain and VR modes for well-known games like Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 Remake. This is quite different from the broader lineup Sony supported for the original PSVR, which launched in 2016, offering popular titles such as Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Blood & Truth, and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, among others.
Sony has extended a bit of support for PSVR 2 enthusiasts by launching a PC Adapter last August, priced at $60. This handy device enables players to enjoy SteamVR games like Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR, indicating a potential shift away from the previous tight integration with the PS5 ecosystem.
Looking forward, if discounts akin to those seen during last Holiday Season reappear, they could drive a noteworthy increase in annual sales, enticing more PS5 owners to delve into not just a backlog of stellar games but also keeping up with a steady influx of third-party titles. If we see another dramatic 42% price cut like the one on Black Friday, PSVR 2 could plunge to just $232, making it an irresistible holiday gift.
(As a quick update from February 27, 2025, we had originally misstated the Euro price as €550, but it should be noted that it stands corrected at €450.)
