The team behind Skyblivion, an ambitious project recreating The Elder Scrolls IV using Skyrim’s game engine, recently shared some exciting news. They have now completed the landscaping across all regions of their Cyrodiil map. This marks a significant achievement on their journey toward the mod’s anticipated 2025 release, although there’s still more work to be done before we can get our hands on it.
In a tweet, the team provided an update, saying, “With the Niben Basin and Valley complete, all of Cyrodiil’s landscape has had at least a first pass. Next up: Improve previously worked areas of the map to bring them to higher standards.” This announcement comes after last month’s update video, where the modders mentioned they were close to wrapping up the world map, with only the Nibenay region on the eastern border left to tackle. Well, it looks like they can check that task off their list!
While it’s thrilling to know that the landscapes are shaping up, there’s still crucial work ahead involving details like navmeshing. This is essential to ensure non-player characters (NPCs) can navigate the environment smoothly. Without this, the release might lead to NPCs having significant pathfinding issues, not just the occasional hiccup we sometimes spot in vanilla Skyrim or Oblivion.
Moreover, last month the team shared they are still chipping away at various interiors. They’re focusing on quest locations that need more time and creative input compared to more generic spaces. As of that update, six quests were still in queue to begin development.
The dedicated Skyblivion team is still on the lookout for skilled volunteers eager to contribute to this massive undertaking. If that sounds like you, they’d love to hear from you.
