Ancient Dungeon VR, a beloved rogue-lite dungeon crawler, has just upgraded its PSVR 2 experience by introducing multiplayer co-op gameplay.
Since its initial release back in 2021, when it debuted on Steam Early Access and the now-retired App Lab for Quest, Ancient Dungeon has been carving out single-player thrills for gamers. Players have spent more than 20 hours navigating its labyrinthine dungeons, battling it out in physics-heavy combat against blocky wizards, skeletons, and other fantasy creatures reminiscent of Dungeons & Dragons classics.
While those on Quest and SteamVR platforms were treated to four-player co-op midway through 2024, PSVR 2 users were left waiting after its version went live in December 2023 without this feature. The wait is finally over, as game developer Eric Thullen has launched the eagerly anticipated multiplayer update for PSVR 2. Now, up to four players can journey together through the game’s ever-changing dungeons, dodging traps and vanquishing foes in co-op mode.
During a Reddit Q&A session, Thullen explained that cross-play isn’t available across any platforms for now. However, he did assure fans that cross-play with Quest and PC VR will be introduced at a later date.
Ancient Dungeon stands out as one of VR’s indie success stories. It first captured attention through a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020, followed by a beta release that was extremely well-received. Garnering over 1,000 reviews and a fantastic [4.8/5] rating, it solidified its position in the VR community.
Fast forward nearly five years, and the game remains committed to providing new content regularly. Updates have continued to roll out, featuring new weapons, cosmetic items, insight upgrades, fresh dungeon floors, and relics. These enhancements are part of Thullen and his team’s efforts as they gear up for the eventual 1.0 release, which, according to a Steam update, is still a bit on the horizon.
Players can explore Ancient Dungeon VR on Steam for PC VR headsets, venture into the Horizon Store for Quest, or dive into the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2, all for the price of $20.
