A massive sale on the PSVR 2 has unexpectedly boosted its holiday season sales on Amazon US, reaching nearly five times the figures from last year.
The Black Friday and holiday season saw the PSVR 2 Horizon bundle slashed by 42%, dropping the price from $550 to a mere $350 in the US. As you might imagine, this significant discount spurred an impressive uptick in sales. In fact, PSVR 2’s peak sales volume on Amazon during the 2024 holiday season was nearly quintuple that of 2023.
While there weren’t any substantial discounts during the 2023 holiday season, one might assume that cutting a product’s price in half would lead to a 50% increase in sales. Interestingly, PSVR 2 defies this straightforward expectation, showing a much more complex relationship between price cuts and sales volume.
Sony kicked off this sale early, well before Black Friday, and kept it running well into the new year. The extended duration of this sale hints at a potential strategy to clear out inventory, possibly to make room for a new SKU, such as a bundle or a lower-cost redesign. While some may speculate that Sony is losing confidence in the headset, gearing up for a clearance sale ahead of discontinuation, we believe it’s more likely they’ll keep the PSVR 2 available at least until the next console generation, even if they aren’t heavily investing in it at the moment.
