Girlfriend from Hell from Sometimes You and That Guy’s Games is here to spice up your Valentine’s Day on PlayStation 5 with its new arcade 2D puzzle offering. Get ready for our review of Girlfriend from Hell!
Meet Mia, the star of our story. She once adored Haruto more than anything else in the world. Her dream was to marry him, especially after spending five years together. But here’s the twist—Mia was trapped in a toxic relationship, unbeknownst to her. She bent over backward to make Haruto happy, but he wasn’t much of a catch. It all came crashing down when Mia popped the question, only for Haruto to reject her because, in his view, video games took precedence. That’s when Mia decided it was payback time, and she was going to give Haruto a taste of hell on earth.
Initially, the game eases you in with a tutorial level. In this stage, you won’t have direct control over Mia. Instead, you’re tasked with maneuvering the camera using the left analog stick and controlling a cursor with the right one. By pressing the X button, you can interact with and collect various items to add to your inventory. The name of the game? Misleading Haruto with calculated pranks, choosing from your collected items with the L1 and R1 buttons. Once selected, position the item with your cursor and press Square to lay your trap.
Now, what sort of mischief are you orchestrating for Haruto post-rejection? You might set a bear trap at his room entrance for an unexpected surprise. Or perhaps you’d prefer to spike his cereal with laxatives for an uncomfortable breakfast. Maybe scatter marbles on the kitchen floor so he goes tumbling while heading for the fridge. And who could resist putting a spring in the bed for a little airborne action? As you can see, the prank possibilities are endless.
Girlfriend from Hell comes with a full suite of trophies, capped off by a Platinum trophy for the taking. Your goal is to navigate through levels 1 to 8, orchestrating pranks so effective they leave Haruto with no choice but to rethink his priorities. With a straightforward lineup of 2 Bronze, 4 Silver, and 10 Gold trophies, securing that Platinum should be a rewarding endeavor for trophy hunters.
This Valentine’s Day, Girlfriend from Hell lands on PlayStation 5 at an appealing price point of just $4.99. The premise might seem playful, but the challenges are genuine and will have you thinking creatively about pranks to teach Haruto a lesson he’ll likely never forget.
