I’m currently crafting a review for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island, and to get some insights, I had a chat with Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, co-founder of Polygon Treehouse. Interested in what he had to say? Let’s dive in!
PS4Blog: Morning, Alex! Thrilled to catch up with you again. How’s life treating you these days?
Alex: Thanks for having me! It’s been a whirlwind since our last indie title, Röki. It’s been interesting to shift from Scandinavian folklore to exploring Greek mythology with Mythwrecked. Imagining the Greek gods in today’s world has been a fascinating journey.
PS4B: So, Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch on December 5. Can you share some details about what players can expect from this new adventure?
Alex: Of course! We like to call Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island an ‘explore-o-story’ game. You step into the shoes of Alex, a backpacker in dire need of an escape from the chaos of modern life. But things take an unexpected turn with a mysterious storm that leaves Alex stranded on an ancient island. There, you’ll form friendships with the Greek gods, help them regain their memories, and hopefully find your way back home.
PS4B: Can you tell us when this journey began for you? How did the game transform from its early ideas to the final experience that players will soon have?
Alex: We embarked on this project around three years ago. The core concept has remained strong throughout, especially key elements like the radar treasure hunting and memory flashbacks. What has evolved significantly is our ‘Story Sandbox’—interactions with the gods and story progression have seen several iterations and now provide players with a truly immersive narrative experience.
PS4B: Röki received a physical release, much to the delight of collectors. Should we expect the same for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island?
Alex: I’ve always been a fan of physical editions, so having one for Röki was a dream come true. Right now, there’s nothing to announce for Mythwrecked, but fingers crossed that something could happen in the future.
PS4B: We’re wrapping up here—anything else you’d like our readers to know?
Alex: Just a heartfelt thank you for your time! If cozy games, mythology, adventure, or mystery are your things, Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is right up your alley. We believe it promises an unforgettable indie gaming experience.
