PlayStation’s Hideaki Nishino recently shared with the BBC how the PS Portal sales have been a tremendous success for Sony. He emphasized that the handheld device is only just beginning its journey, especially with the recent feature of direct cloud streaming. This marks a new era as Sony explores innovative ways to deliver PlayStation games to its audience.
When asked about rumors of a new PlayStation portable console, both Nishino and co-CEO Hermen Hulst skillfully dodged the questions, leaving us with more to speculate. Nonetheless, Nishino commented on the evolving nature of gaming habits, which was a driving factor behind the release and subsequent triumph of the PS Portal.
“We’ve just rolled out a beta for cloud streaming directly to the handheld,” Nishino mentioned. “There are several exciting avenues we’re considering to enhance how gamers can enjoy their favorite titles.”
After stepping back from portable gaming for a while, Sony seems to be actively experimenting with a new handheld. Some prototypes might already be in circulation. The success of the PS Portal has likely rejuvenated these efforts. And given Microsoft’s clear intentions to launch an Xbox portable device, it seems Sony is keen on staying competitive as the industry prepares for the next generation, potentially with the PS6 on the horizon.
