NVIDIA enthusiasts might find themselves in a bit of a waiting game if they are hoping to snag the latest RTX 5090 or 5080 graphics cards from Overclockers UK. The anticipation is palpable, but patience is key here.
The Pause on Pre-orders: What to Expect for the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080
The launch of NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series didn’t quite go as smoothly as many had hoped; in fact, it turned out to be more of a ‘paper launch.’ Numerous stores struggled to acquire even a single unit of the RTX 5090, let alone enough to meet demand. Those that did manage to stock the RTX 5090 saw it vanish within minutes of lifting the embargo, and the story wasn’t much different for the RTX 5080. Despite slightly better availability, it still vanished quickly, thanks to limited supply and a less than impressive generational advancement.
Anyone looking to snap up one of these GPUs needs to settle in for a bit of a wait. Overclockers UK reports that not only are their stocks depleted, but they’ve also halted pre-orders altogether for the time being. So, the big question remains—when will they be back?
According to Overclockers UK, the RTX 5090 could take anywhere from 3 to 16 weeks to arrive back in stock, whereas the RTX 5080 might make a reappearance a bit sooner, potentially in 2 to 6 weeks. If the delay stretches to 16 weeks for the RTX 5090, customers may have to hang tight until nearly mid-2025. By then, the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 are expected to have already launched—set for the 20th of February and March, respectively.
“Stock Update for RTX 50 Series – 31/01/2025:
Stock Update: RTX 5090 sold out and pre-orders ceased. RTX 5080 sold out and pre-orders ceased. Due to incredibly high demand and limited stock, all 50 Series cards sold shortly after launch, despite some pre-orders being taken in limited quantities. Expect arrivals in:
RTX 5090 ETA: 3-16 weeks
RTX 5080 ETA: 2-6 weeks
*- Overclockers UK”
While you might see the RTX 5080 resurfacing within weeks, it’s clear the demand far exceeded the supply, even though this card didn’t showcase the leap forward many were hoping for. That doesn’t seem to have deterred buyers, especially since its price tag is on par with the RTX 4080 Super. This scenario turned purchase attempts into adventures for some, with people camping outside stores and participating in lotteries just for a chance at securing one of these GPUs.
Currently, if you ordered an RTX 50 series card from Overclockers UK and haven’t yet received a confirmation email, it’s possible your order could be caught in the pre-order backlog. That’s part of the reason why the retailer has paused taking any new pre-orders for now. On a global scale, it’s not clear when these GPUs will return to store shelves elsewhere, so for now, fans will have to continue playing the waiting game.
