Recently, a growing number of GeForce RTX 5090 owners have reported issues suggesting their GPUs are being “bricked,” and NVIDIA has taken notice, launching an investigation into the situation.
Over the past few days, the distressing reports have extended not only to the RTX 5090 but also to its Chinese counterpart, the RTX 5090D. Users have shared their frustrating attempts at resolving the problem with various troubleshooting techniques, only to discover that the issue persists more often than not.
While a few individuals have claimed some success with unconventional fixes, the majority remain stuck with unresponsive GPUs. Due to the increasing frequency of these complaints, NVIDIA has finally responded to the community’s concerns. In a statement to PC Gamer, a representative from NVIDIA said:
> “We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.”
Though the details were scarce, this acknowledgment marks a critical first step in addressing the ordeal. If you’re unfamiliar with the problem, we shed light on it in a recent article. Essentially, a number of RTX 5090 and 5090D units have encountered black screens following a driver update, leading to a failure to power up displays.
This recurrent problem arises as soon as users install the latest NVIDIA driver, creating layers of complexity. Even reverting to an older driver version doesn’t seem to remedy the situation, as affected GPUs often remain unrecognized by computers. In some cases, even resetting the BIOS hasn’t coaxed the GPU back to visibility in either the Device Manager or BIOS settings.
While we are still in the dark about the true cause, some speculate it could be rooted in architectural or driver compatibility issues rather than a hardware defect. As enthusiasts and users eagerly await further updates from NVIDIA, a stable solution to resolve the RTX 5090/5090D bricking conundrum remains elusive.
