Well, it seems like we’re reaching the end of an era for some Nintendo Switch features, especially for those who’ve managed to steer clear of opening their wallets for Nintendo Switch Online.
Nintendo has recently dropped some news that’s set to shake things up. Two popular features are on the chopping block, with one wrapping up just after the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, and another won’t be carrying over to the upcoming Switch 2.
In a recent announcement, Nintendo revealed that the My Nintendo Gold program will be discontinued starting March 25 at 12:59 a.m. ET. This program had been a nice little perk, offering players 1% back in eShop credit for first-party physical releases in their first year and 5% back on all eShop purchases automatically. There’s a catch though: if you’ve got physical games released between March 25, 2024, and their respective one-year mark, you can still snag that offer. This means titles from Endless Ocean: Luminous through to Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition are included. Unfortunately, games like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t meet the criteria.
Moreover, the Nintendo Switch Online Vouchers have gotten an update too, confirming that they won’t be compatible with Switch 2 games. This might be a bummer for some, as those handy vouchers, priced at $99 US or equivalent, let you nab first-party game releases. But don’t worry—they’ll still work for upcoming titles on the original Switch platform like Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
So, whether you’re collecting Gold points or enjoying those voucher purchases, it’s time to make the most of these features before they bid us farewell.
