A Chinese leaker, known for sharing CAD images of the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, has now claimed to have an actual working unit to sell. This anonymous seller, surfaced on Reddit, seems to be in talks with an accessory manufacturer, offering them this unreleased console for a hefty $39,800.
The initial CAD designs, which were leaked, appear to have been adopted by companies like Dbrand, among others making accessories for the yet-to-be-launched Switch 2. The consistency between these leaks and the console’s final design shown in its reveal video lends credibility to the leaker. Still, it’s wise to remain a bit skeptical of this information.
Using the forums on Xiaohongshu, the leaker assured potential buyers that they could test out components of the Switch 2, such as its dock, joystick, and tablet. There’s also a suggestion that Pro controllers might become available soon, hinting at Nintendo’s next move after their official Switch Pro accessory.
There’s a Reddit post featuring a screenshot of a conversation between the leaker and a black market seller. It states the pricing for the Switch 2 components—dock, joycons, and tablet—at nearly $40,000.
One wonders if the leaker will actually spend the cash to have full access to a pre-release Switch 2. The opportunity could be enticing, especially if it leads to early entry into the market for case and accessory manufacturers, both official and otherwise.
Given the high stakes, it seems plausible that this CAD design leaker would expect significant financial compensation from any unofficial accessory maker looking to get a head start with such a high-value piece of hardware.
The big draw here is the possibility of pre-release tinkering with the Nintendo Switch 2. Though games specifically enhanced for the Switch 2 might require updates akin to pro-console patches, it’s unlikely we’ll see any physical games appear until the launch is imminent. That being said, this console, particularly if it ships with its final operating system, could offer an alluring playground for early development and exploitation.
We’re all awaiting Nintendo’s official word on the release date. It would be quite the twist if that date was so distant that this early acquisition ended up being moot for the buyer.
