I’ve been diving deep into Monster Hunter Wilds ever since it launched a few weeks ago. Lately, I’ve been focusing on upping my hunter rank in those challenging high-rank zones. My current conundrum involves choosing my next armor set—do I go after the intimidating Jin Dahaad, or is the super-tough Gravios armor, ideal for my hammer-wielding style, the way to go? With all the game offers, there’s just one little thing gnawing at me.
I really miss being able to suit up a pig in cute outfits and carry it around like a cherished pet.
Any veteran of the Monster Hunter series knows I’m talking about Poogie, the adorable pig with floppy ears, almost as iconic as the dreaded Rathalos itself. My first brush with Poogie happened in Monster Hunter World’s hub, where petting him was not just heartwarming but skillful—press the buttons just right, and Poogie would reward you with affection. Mess it up, though, and he’d scamper off, grumpy until you returned from your next quest.
In the older titles, Poogie was a gathering hub staple. Giving him a pat before each hunt supposedly boosted your odds of snagging rare monster loot—a belief held by some, though never officially acknowledged. But Poogie wasn’t just about superstition; previous games let us dress him in delightful costumes once we earned his favor. Who could resist a Poogie decked out as a little bee? I used to wander the hub in Monster Hunter World with Poogie snug in my arms, my controller buzzing when treasure was nearby. (If you’re curious, TagBackTV has an excellent guide on that feature.)
Now, Monster Hunter Wilds includes a Poogie, but you don’t meet him until chapter 3 in a rarely visited village unless you’re on a specific quest. Yes, this Poogie balances a tiny frog on his back—adorable!—but our interaction options are limited. No fun outfits like stripey pajamas or cuddly ram costumes here. All I can do is offer a pet and maybe change his name.
Capcom’s Title 1 update for Monster Hunter Wilds, dropping next week, promises a more elaborate gathering hub—a worthy alternative to the scattered campsites across the Forbidden Lands. The 12-minute Capcom preview shows this new Grand Hub offering games and an upgraded kitchen, which has sparked excitement. Could this mean the return of the beloved Meowscular Chef with his fabulous culinary skills?
But honestly, without a Poogie I can scoop up and carry around, this new hub will feel incomplete. Capcom, please, grant this simple joy. I’m just asking for a pig I can dress up and cuddle.
