Meta has entered a lengthy partnership with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), becoming its ‘Official Fan Technology Partner.’ This collaboration is expected to weave UFC’s martial arts events more closely into Meta’s platforms, including Quest.
The UFC plans to utilize Meta’s innovative technology to enhance fan interaction around the globe. This includes tapping into Meta’s AI, smart glasses, VR headset Quest, and popular social media networks like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads.
In particular, Meta will also hold the title of ‘Official AI Glasses Partner’ and collaborate creatively with the UFC, using the advanced glasses at various UFC events.
UFC President and CEO Dana White expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting Meta’s cutting-edge technology. “Over the years, I’ve had some fantastic partners who helped grow this sport, but Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, is set to elevate fan experiences like never before,” White mentioned. They’ve already started developing a new fighter ranking system, which should be unveiled in the near future. The upcoming years are shaping up to be transformative for UFC fans.
This partnership seems quite fitting since Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s founder and CEO, has become quite interested in the sport, participating in several Jiu Jitsu competitions himself. Zuckerberg shared, “I love this sport and can’t wait to work with UFC to provide fans with fresh experiences.”
Interestingly, Dana White joined Meta’s board of directors earlier this year, alongside other notable figures like John Elkann and Charlie Songhurst.
As far as what this means for Quest users, specifics are scarce. However, Meta plans to mesh UFC content with Pay-Per-View and Fight Night events, featuring brand additions in the Octagon, new broadcast elements, and immersive fan activities at events. Meta’s Threads will also feature exclusive UFC content, adding more value to the social platform.
The UFC first started collaborating with Meta in 2022, offering 180-degree Fight Pass livestreams to Horizon Worlds and the Xtadium app. This new partnership could indicate an expansion of UFC content across Quest, boosting the sport’s presence on Meta’s virtual platforms.
Further information about this expanded alliance will be shared in the near future.
