Meta has recently revealed its alliance with Lightstorm Vision, the 3D film studio under the direction of legendary filmmaker James Cameron. This collaboration aims to produce an array of spatial content across various genres, encompassing live events and full-length entertainment.
The partnership includes the crafting of live sports broadcasts, concerts, feature films, and television series based on well-known intellectual properties. According to a recent blog post by Meta, Lightstorm Vision will exclusively utilize Quest as its mixed reality hardware platform, bringing cutting-edge experiences to audiences.
Meta further detailed that this venture with Lightstorm Vision not only involves co-producing novel stereoscopic content but also focuses on enhancing content creators’ abilities. This will be achieved through the development of advanced tools, incorporating AI to elevate the quality of stereoscopic materials.
This exciting multi-year partnership took shape after Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s CTO and head of Reality Labs, showcased some of the company’s state-of-the-art hardware to Cameron.
"I found the transformational potential and power absolutely remarkable," Cameron enthusiastically shares. "The implications for content creators around the globe are immense. I believe we’re standing at a significant, historical turning point. By teaming up with Meta, we’ll ensure everyone has access to tools that enable us to create, experience, and revel in revolutionary forms of media."
James Cameron, renowned for writing and directing numerous blockbuster hits such as The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Titanic, and Avatar along with its sequels, is a long-time advocate of 3D technology. In the 2010s, he played a crucial role in the surge of 3D films through the development of the Fusion Camera System. This innovation was instrumental in capturing 3D visuals for films like Avatar, Tron: Legacy, and Life of Pi.
