It seems we’re witnessing the likely cancellation of yet another game, this time it’s Project G.G. from PlatinumGames. This title, which shared some visual elements with Ultra Man, never really had much information revealed about it.
Do you recall Project G.G.? I wouldn’t blame you if it slipped your mind. Announced way back in 2020, the game has been shrouded in mystery ever since. The situation became even more uncertain when Hideki Kamiya, the game’s director and one of the co-founders of PlatinumGames, parted ways with the studio at the end of 2023. Naturally, this raised questions about whether the project would ever be completed. Now, it seems very likely that it won’t. A visit to PlatinumGames’ website, specifically the section showcasing all their projects, reveals a list of 10 games. This includes fan-favorites like the Bayonetta series, Nier: Automata, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and their new announcement, Ninja Gaiden 4.
Interestingly, if you take a trip back in time using the Wayback Machine, you’ll notice that the website once listed 22 games. This included fan hits and licensed adventures like Transformers: Devastation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, and The Legend of Korra, alongside original titles such as Madworld and the ill-fated Babylon’s Fall. While these games are no longer showcased on the site, they still maintain their dedicated pages. Project G.G., on the other hand, has been scrubbed from the list altogether. Its URL now simply redirects back to the main page of PlatinumGames.
This situation strongly suggests that Project G.G. is no longer in development — an outcome that’s not entirely surprising given Kamiya’s departure over a year ago. The direction of PlatinumGames’ projects has been somewhat unclear lately, particularly as they’ve experienced some notable staff departures. However, the announcement of the new Ninja Gaiden game suggests that the studio still has plans to keep things moving forward, at least for the time being.
