The indie game developer, The Binary Mill, has announced that their sci-fi mining adventure, Into Black, is set to expand its horizons beyond the Oculus Quest. It’s gearing up for a release on the PlayStation VR 2. Initially launched on the Quest last October, this game blends elements of action and resource management, inviting players to scavenge for materials, upgrade their equipment, and undertake the crucial task of ship repair. As players traverse through over 20 distinct levels, each with unique ecosystems, they’ll face various creatures while collecting the necessary parts to escape a perilous alien planet.
For PlayStation VR 2 users, there’s more than just the original campaign to look forward to. The new version will introduce the ‘Singularity’ mode, where players can engage in thrilling player-versus-player-versus-environment (PvPvE) skirmishes against up to 11 competitors. According to the developers, this mode encourages players to form temporary alliances as they navigate a constantly constricting landscape, gather loot, and make challenging decisions about risk and reward.
Exciting enhancements for the PSVR 2 version include upgraded visuals, such as revamped environments and sophisticated lighting effects, including HDR and eye-tracked foveated rendering. Additionally, players will experience improved haptics through PS Sense’s adaptive triggers and the PSVR 2’s headset rumble capabilities, immersing them even deeper into the gameplay.
Unfortunately, players hoping for cross-play between PSVR 2 and Quest will have to wait. The studio confirmed there won’t be cross-platform interactions at launch. Though fans are eagerly waiting for a comprehensive trailer showcasing all these new features, the developers have released a few images and short clips to give a taste of what lies ahead. While no official release date has been announced yet, The Binary Mill assures fans they won’t have to wait much longer. Into Black can be added to your wishlist on the PlayStation Store, so you’re ready when it hits the shelves.
