Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Unveils a Fresh Journey Through Westeros

If you’re itching for an adventure and have a penchant for Game of Thrones, you’re in luck. A new free-to-play action-adventure RPG, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, is about to drop for PC and mobile.

This upcoming game introduces players to an original narrative set in the unforgettable world of Westeros during the tense latter part of Season 4. You’ll step into the shoes of a fresh character—a descendant of House Tyre, a lesser-known northern house caught in the series’ trademark political intrigue.

As you navigate this intricate world, you’ll encounter iconic figures like Jon Snow, Samwell Tarly, Lord Varys, and Cersei Lannister. The game also immerses you in events you haven’t witnessed before, such as the volatile alliances of House Bolton. Your adventures will lead you to some of the most recognized locales—King’s Landing, Castle Black, and Highgarden—painstakingly designed to replicate their screen appearances.

Expect an expansive open world to wander, exploring each of these settings and even venturing beyond the Wall into uncharted territory and mysterious villages. Each location offers unique quests and challenges that weave into the rich fabric of Game of Thrones lore.

Apart from the main quests pushing the narrative forward, there are plenty of side missions to keep you engaged. Also, the game offers optional tasks relating to Factions and Estates. Completing these earns you rewards like money, gear, and crafting materials, all of which allow for deep customization of your character and their loadout.

Now, this wouldn’t be Westeros without its share of peril. Beyond the constant political threats, you’ll face individuals desperate enough to kill to survive. This is where the action-packed RPG combat mechanics step in.

Players can choose from three character classes, each drawing inspiration from familiar Game of Thrones archetypes. As a Knight, you wield a longsword with precision. The Sellsword, channeling the raw strength of Wildlings and Dothraki, is all about brute force. Finally, the Assassin, inspired by the Faceless Men and Dornish warriors, is nimble and deadly with dual daggers.

Every class provides its own gear, traits, and skills, letting you decide how your character grows. You can focus on Attack, Defense, or Support in the trait trees or spread your abilities to become a versatile warrior. You’ll have four skill slots to fill with special abilities tailored to your class.

Combat requires paying close attention to your foes’ moves. While guarding and parrying is key, some attacks demand a timely dodge, adding a layer of strategy to every encounter. Analyzing attack patterns and picking the right moment to strike is essential to succeeding in battle.

Beyond the single-player campaign, the game features a multiplayer mode named Altar of Memories. Here, you can team up with others against legendary beasts, including gigantic ice spiders, unicorns from Skagos, striking griffins, and monstrous cockatrices.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad kicks off with an Early Access launch on March 26. You can already pre-register on the game’s official website for both PC and mobile, including platforms like Steam.
