FuturLab has decided to halt support for the VR version of PowerWash Simulator. Kirsty Rigden, the studio’s CEO, shared this in a post on BlueSky. While FuturLab remains optimistic about VR technology, they’ve been losing money on some platforms. Although specific names weren’t mentioned, it’s known that PowerWash Simulator VR was available on various Meta headsets like Quest 2, 3, and Pro.
In her message, Rigden explained, “We reached a point where we needed to make a tough choice: our fantastic and dedicated VR team was working on a platform that cost us more money than it earned. At the same time, we had numerous job positions open for other projects.” Rigden continued, “We ultimately redeployed our VR team to these other ventures. Ideally, I would have loved to see PowerWash Simulator supported everywhere, but my priority is always ensuring job security for the team. I believe, in my shoes, you’d have made the same call, even though I understand many might feel let down.”
PowerWash Simulator, which hit the market in 2021, has attracted over 12 million players. Its VR version was launched in November 2023.
