In Destiny 2, the impact of a well-constructed build cannot be underestimated, especially when tackling the intense challenges of Trials of Osiris or Grandmaster Nightfalls. With strategic setups being pivotal to success, it’s clear that Hunters, a key class in the game, could greatly benefit from some new features like a Void subclass melee attack to diversify their toolkit and enhance their gameplay efficiency.
Even though Destiny 2 has evolved significantly and offers a variety of choices for players to build creatively, there are still remnants of past systems that could use some refinement. Take the Storm’s Keep, for instance—it’s designed to bolster Titan’s ranged DPS with reliability, unlike complex combos such as Eternal Warrior paired with the Star-Eater’s scale. However, Storm’s Keep is a recent innovation, carving out its unique niche. For Hunters, however, similar advancements are still a work in progress.
In these high-stake scenarios, Destiny 2 builds are the deciding factor between success and failure. Hunters, historically, have enjoyed a good run with formidable exotics and updates ranging from versatile Prismatic Aspects to the standout Gifted Conviction exotic. Yet, when it comes to their Void subclass, they’re in dire need of fresh capabilities.
Currently, Void Hunter builds revolve around the Smoke Bomb, which, while useful and versatile, engaging well with exotics like Omnioculus, limits their offensive options. The introduction of abilities like On The Prowl hints at the potential for more variety. Hence, a new melee attack within the Nightstalker subclass would not only expand their gameplay dynamics but also resonate with their predatory theme—giving them a way to deliver significant damage alongside their strategic maneuvers.
A new Void melee focusing on damage would nicely align with the thematic elements of the Nightstalker, often envisioned as stealthy predators in combat. While their current Void toolkit is functional, improvements could be made. Even the entry-level Exotics such as Graviton Forfeit, used in endgame missions, could see enhancements with a melee attack that packs a punch.
Creating this new melee attack could also resolve a broader issue within the subclass, which lacks consistent methods to apply the Suppress debuff—a gap this new addition could fill. Potential implementations include:
– A ranged ability like a Light-infused projectile, such as a knife or shuriken, that weakens the target while dealing solid damage.
– Alternatively, a melee strike that applies Suppress and delivers significant damage, albeit on a medium-to-high cooldown.
These concepts would align well thematically and practically with the Nightstalker archetype. They could make significant strategic contributions to activities like Grandmaster Nightfalls, where safety and strategic gameplay are key, and competitive modes like PvP or Dungeons that benefit from greater offensive capabilities.
Furthermore, introducing a new Void melee would open up opportunities to leverage certain Fragments and Exotics more effectively. This could breathe new life into Hunter builds, providing alternatives to abilities like Devour or enhancing the utility of On The Prowl.
Although it remains uncertain whether Bungie is planning to roll out a new Void melee attack, it’s a prospect the community looks forward to. With Destiny 2: Frontiers on the horizon, scheduled to follow the Episode Heresy, there’s hope that this addition could appear in future updates, significantly enhancing the Nightstalker subclass and enriching the Hunter’s repertoire.
