Her world took a dark turn when the fearsome pirate Mad Molak captured her father’s ship, Nightsdream, slaughtering almost everyone on board.

Surviving the ordeal due to her skills as a celestial navigator, Portia’s heart turned cold with vengeance. In time, she lured her captors into a trap, steering them into the treacherous Dragon’s Tooth, resulting in their watery demise. Portia, whether blessed or cursed, became the sole survivor, eventually finding a companion in her loyal pup, Snug.

Once a symbol of survival against overwhelming odds, Portia endured the massacre and years stranded at Dragon’s Tooth—a site unbeknownst to her as a dangerous Bleed, where realms intermingle.

Jessi Thind, the Lead Narrative Director, illuminates this transformation: “Stepping into a Bleed either consumes you or drives you mad.”

Her madness, a side effect of survival, was matched by a newfound mastery of violence, and her thirst for revenge against Molak cemented her destiny in the Entity’s realm.

Portia’s last sliver of humanity lingered with Snug, who stood by her as a fierce defender. Their bond manifests through The Houndmaster’s Power, with Snug tracking and holding Survivors.

A Dance with Darkness

From the shadows of the Black Talon—a branch of the sinister Black Vale—emerges Taurie Cain. Her upbringing was dedicated to unearthing the secrets of The Entity. When her parents disappeared into a Bleed for research, Taurie braved its mysteries, saving them from certain doom.

Her devotion to this dark cause propelled Taurie to rise through the ranks, pushing her into morally dubious areas. While other Survivors like Haddie Kaur and Elodie Rakoto might stray inadvertently into the Black Vale’s grasp, Taurie pursued it eagerly, envisioning The Entity as a gateway to transcendence beyond the mortal coil.

Jessi Thind elaborates, “Taurie genuinely sees her acts as beneficial to humanity; yet, as her path darkened, she had to make irreversible choices.”

Facing a defining moment, Taurie was poised to sacrifice Jordan Rois, Haddie Kaur’s stepbrother and a constant headache for the Talon. But at the crucial moment of striking, she hesitated, marking a pivotal choice before entering The Fog.

Inside The Fog, Taurie discovered the bleak reality of her beliefs: devotion that led only to endless agony. Unbroken, she remains hopeful that her true purpose is yet to materialize.

"Her commitment might actually serve her well in The Fog," continues Thind, "as she clings to the notion that it’s all part of a larger design, striving for The Entity’s recognition as a Killer."

"The Entity thrives on emotions," says Thind. "Perhaps it saw value in having someone among the Survivors who inherently stands apart. Taurie’s discontent with her new companions, those she sees as unbelievers, fuels conflict—the ideal feast for The Entity."

Despite any turmoil, Taurie is determined to endure. Her Perks allow her to swiftly detach from teammates, draw the Killer’s focus, and use pain as a weapon.
