Overwatch 2’s community is buzzing with creative ideas following the game’s Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover event. One suggestion that has caught attention is a Junkrat skin inspired by the beloved Cabbage Merchant from the Avatar series. These collaborative events are a hallmark of the hero shooter, sparking players’ imaginations about how they could expand further. The current Avatar event in Overwatch 2 has prompted fans to invent skin concepts that they feel better capture the spirit of the crossover.
The latest event introduces six Avatar-themed skins, including a Zenyatta skin modeled after Aang and a Genji cosmetic inspired by Zuko. Some choices, like turning Mei into Katara, seem fitting, aligning her ice abilities with the water bending theme. However, fans believe Blizzard overlooked some ideal character matches, prompting them to create fan designs to illustrate the missed opportunities.
Reddit users have actively voiced their opinion that Junkrat should have donned a Cabbage Merchant skin. A creative user, known as drawnbyjared, shared their vision of what this skin might look like. Enthusiastic comments praised the idea, imagining Junkrat’s ammo as literal cabbages and supporting the notion that such a skin would humorously allow the Cabbage Merchant to avenge his ruined produce. During the previous My Hero Academia crossover, fans similarly crafted their own skin designs, making the appearance of fan-made skins for the Avatar event almost inevitable.
As much as the fan community adores the idea of a Junkrat Cabbage Merchant skin, it’s understandable why Blizzard chose not to focus on it. Both the Cabbage Merchant and Avatar’s June, who also didn’t get a skin despite Ashe sharing her voice actor, are side characters. They don’t have as much screen presence compared to mainstays like Katara and Zuko. Blizzard’s decision to spotlight principal characters is sensible. Although the upcoming Avatar RPG, set millennia before the series, probably won’t feature the Cabbage Merchant, a distant ancestor might just make an unexpected appearance.
