Green Hell VR, the immersive adaptation of the renowned open-world survival game by Incuvo, is finally bringing its much-anticipated co-op mode to both Quest and PSVR 2 players this month.
Initially teased back in April 2023, the co-op feature is set to arrive on December 16th and will be accessible for free to those who own the game on PSVR 2 and Quest models 2, 3, and 3S. This new multiplayer facet enhances the already challenging solo experience by allowing up to four players to team up. Together, they can arm themselves with melee or ranged weaponry for hunting or safeguarding one another from the jungle’s myriad threats. Building shelters to withstand environmental hazards becomes a team effort, and when healing is needed, players will visibly display their need for assistance, even down to spotting bothersome leeches on one another.
However, there’s a catch: the upcoming co-op mode does not support cross-play between platforms, including connections from PC to VR or between Quest and PSVR 2. In a recent post on X, the studio emphasized that their primary focus had been on developing the multiplayer aspect. They hinted that while cross-play could prolong the process, it’s still on their radar for future consideration.
Andrzej Wychowaniec, CEO of Incuvo, expressed the importance of this feature: “Bringing co-op to Meta Quest and PSVR2 is extremely important to our VR community, and we know they have been waiting for this feature since we first launched the game on those platforms. Still, we had to ensure it lived up to their expectations for an immersive, co-op survival experience.”
As for whether the SteamVR version will enjoy the same co-op update, the studio remains tight-lipped, and the likelihood seems low. Since the release on Steam, the PC VR version has been somewhat neglected, with the last major update appearing in late 2022. It seems the focus was on rolling out the ‘Spirits of Amazonia Part I’ expansion for Quest and PSVR 2 users.
