Well, there’s a treat for old-school Sims enthusiasts, courtesy of EA and Maxis. In celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary, they’ve rolled out re-releases of the first two Sims games, and yes, they’re hitting the shelves today!
Rumors had been swirling that EA was planning to launch these digital versions on PC by the end of January—which is essentially now—and sure enough, they did just that on January 31, sneaking it in right at the week’s end. Talk about timing!
These re-releases are available on PC through the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam, lovingly titled The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. For those who want to go all in, they’re also bundled together as the Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
EA expressed their enthusiasm, saying, “To celebrate our legacy and honor the incredible fans that have been with us along the way, we’re re-releasing two fan-favorite titles that contain familiar neighborhoods and beloved characters – such as the sneaky burglar, unpredictable genie, and Sunny the Tragic Clown – that started it all. Rediscover the nostalgia and magic of the classics that welcomed so many of you into our amazing community.”
Now, let’s talk pricing. The bundle will set you back $39.99, while The Sims: Legacy Collection is $19.99 and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection is $29.99. Most of the beloved expansion packs seem to have made the cut, although sadly, The Sims 2’s IKEA Home Stuff pack didn’t make it this time around.
It’s a bit disappointing, but there’s still plenty to enjoy, including two holiday packs with The Sims 2, along with the H&M Fashion Stuff pack for your corporate-themed fun. Plus, they’ve thrown in The Sims 4’s Throwback Fit Kit and Grunge Revival Kit with these re-releases—one with each game—for a little something extra if those aren’t already in your collection.
So, if you’ve been lounging around in EA’s quirky “meme jacuzzi” on their Sims Y2K website, take a break, throw on a towel, and dive into these classic re-releases if they’ve piqued your interest!
