Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 isn’t officially out until Tuesday, but the gaming community has already been buzzing with feedback on the newest chapter of this well-loved 4X series. Many players have voiced concerns about the complex user interface and some noticeable absences of features found in earlier games. Responding to these reactions, Firaxis has laid out their roadmap for future updates. Meanwhile, an enthusiastic fan, who dove into the game during its early access phase, took it upon themselves to roll out a mod addressing some of these pain points.
Enter the Simple UI Adjustments mod, crafted by Sukritact. This mod introduces handy tooltips when you hover over tiles. Now, you can see details like wonders on specific tiles, spot smaller plot yield icons on undeveloped sections, and even start diplomacy with other civilizations by simply clicking on their city banners. While these tweaks might seem small, they save players the trouble of rummaging through the Civilopedia or wading through multiple menus just to get essential information.
Civilization 7 might not be broadly available just yet, which means there isn’t a dedicated Steam Workshop page for mods at the moment. Fortunately, grabbing and setting up this mod is straightforward: just drop the relevant folder into your Civ 7 mods directory, which you’ll likely find under “{user}\AppData\Local\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier’s Civilization VII\Mods”. To make sure everything’s properly installed, check the Mods menu under “Additional Content” where the mod should appear as enabled.
Despite the game being open to early access players only since February 6, Sukritact hasn’t stopped there. They’ve also crafted another mod for Civ 7 that lifts the unlock restrictions for all civilizations. Typically, these are tied to your chosen leader and reaching specific milestones during certain eras.
Sure, it’s a bit frustrating that features like renaming cities or units weren’t included in the launch of Civilization 7. However, given the speed at which the modding community is working, I’m optimistic we won’t be without them for too long.
