Bigscreen Beyond offers a game-changing experience in the world of SteamVR headsets with its ultra-compact and lightweight design, making extended VR sessions a dream rather than a discomfort.
Priced at $1000, or an affordable $32 a month, the Beyond headset doesn’t include positional tracking or controllers straight out of the box. It operates on the SteamVR Tracking system, which means you’ll need at least one base station—though two are recommended—for optimal performance, along with your own controllers such as the Valve Index.
The headset is equipped with a basic fabric strap and lacks built-in audio. Interestingly, there isn’t even a headphone jack present. However, it does feature a USB-C port for connecting audio devices. If you’re looking to enhance the audio experience and boost comfort, Bigscreen offers an optional $130 Audio Strap accessory.
When we reviewed Beyond, its small size and incredible comfort stood out, allowing users to enjoy hours of VR without the usual face strain found with other headsets. Nonetheless, we noted some drawbacks: the lenses, aiming for a compact design, tend to produce distracting reflections and blur. Beyond’s pioneering focus on comfort is paving the way for a new generation of headsets, inspiring others to step up their game.
