Orders for the Bigscreen Beyond 2 headset surged unexpectedly last Thursday, surprising many in the industry. The demand was so strong that the new PC VR headset broke records by outselling its predecessor within a mere 24 hours. It’s a significant achievement for Bigscreen, as the sales in just one day matched what the original Beyond 1 managed in half a year.
After its launch, the numbers were staggering. Within just 25 minutes, Beyond 2 had surpassed the entire first day’s sales of the initial model. By the end of the first hour, sales had doubled compared to Beyond 1’s launch day. Ten hours into its availability, the new model had already outstripped four months’ worth of sales of its predecessor.
Friday brought more revelations from Bigscreen’s founder and CEO, Darshan Shankar, who took to social media with the most jaw-dropping stat of all: Beyond 2 sold ten times more in its first 24 hours than Beyond 1 did on its launch day two years ago. In fact, in a single day, it equaled the first six months’ sales of the original model, which Shankar described as “exceptional.”
What’s even more remarkable is how Bigscreen achieved this feat without any advertising expenditure. Shankar emphasized that they didn’t rely on paid influencer promotions or agencies for sleek video marketing—there was no advertising cost at all. Instead, they sent out a modest number of early units—about ten—to reviewers from outlets like Tested, Thrillseeker, MRTV, and VR Flight Sim Guy.
If you missed the buzz, the new Beyond 2 comes in two variations. There’s one equipped with eye-tracking, the Beyond 2e, and a standard version without it. The prices are set at $1,019 and $1,219, respectively. While it maintains the same dual 1-inch 2,560 × 2,560 micro-OLED displays as the original, the standout features include a greater field-of-view (FOV) and enhanced clarity, thanks to an updated pancake lens design. This advancement pushes the FOV to a 116-degree diagonal, compared to the former 102 degrees, along with an adjustable IPD mechanism in an ultra-light 107g package.
Initially, the first sets were expected to ship in April for the Beyond 2 and May for the Beyond 2e. However, due to the overwhelming demand, new orders are currently slated for a June shipping date.
