An exciting retro gaming console is about to hit the market, tapping into nostalgia with its support for the classic PlayStation One system. This new addition, known as the SuperStation One, is inspired by the MiSTer FPGA open-source project. Popular gaming influencer Taki Udon recently revealed on social media that this retro console will be available on the Retro Remake website for just $149. Additionally, a piece called the SuperDock—much like the PSone Combo pack—is being pre-sold for $5, eventually going up to its expected retail price of $35.
The SuperStation One is designed to deliver an authentic PS One gaming experience by playing the original games without emulation, meaning it skips the usual complications emulators sometimes face. The console is compatible with original PS One memory cards and controllers, so you can dig out those classic accessories from your storage. In terms of connectivity, it’s quite versatile, offering both analog and digital outputs. You’ll be able to connect it to anything from your old-school 13-inch CRT monitor to a modern 85-inch OLED TV. It also integrates modern tech, including NFC, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, so you’re covered on all fronts.
Taki Udon also mentioned that while the disc support setup isn’t shown in the images, it will be part of the SuperDock. This means you can enjoy your old collection of PS One games while benefiting from four USB-A ports and a 2280 m.2 SSD bay for extra storage.
For those who grew up in the era of PlayStation One, mainly Millennials and the tail end of Generation X, the SuperStation One represents a delightful blast from the past. However, this console isn’t just for nostalgic gaming veterans; it’s also an opportunity to share those gaming classics with a new generation, sparking interest in the rich history of gaming.
If you’re eager to relive those cherished gaming moments or perhaps introduce your favorites to your kids, the console’s $149 price tag seems like a reasonable deal. Keep in mind, this price is for the console alone—you’ll need to grab your controllers, memory cards, and other accessories separately. If you want to add the dock, which allows for CD play and expanded memory, that’s an additional $35.
All in all, setting up the complete SuperStation One package will cost you about $184. By picking up some affordable retro controllers and other accessories, you can pretty much recreate the full PlayStation One experience for around $250. And if you are keen to dive deep into nostalgia, you might consider adding a 43-inch CRT TV to your gaming setup—just imagine the retro vibes!
