In a year’s time, PlayStation Plus subscribers are set to experience a notable change regarding their benefits. Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that PS4 games will soon no longer be a major feature for subscribers. Instead, these titles will only appear sporadically under the PS Plus’ Monthly Games and Game Catalog offerings.
Sony broke the news in a PlayStation Blog update, explaining that the shift is driven by a growing number of players embracing the PS5. Consequently, their online subscription service will largely pivot to focus on the latest generation of gaming. While PS4 games won’t disappear completely and will surface here and there under the Monthly Games and Game Catalog, the emphasis will decidedly be on PS5 titles starting January 2026. Importantly, any PS4 games you’ve already claimed will remain yours even after the transition.
Adam Michel, the SIE director of game services, addressed the change, saying, “We’ve observed that many of our players have transitioned to PS5, redeeming and enjoying PS5 titles with our Monthly Games and Game Catalog benefits. PlayStation Plus is adapting to these trends, redirecting focus to PS5 content as of January 2026.” He added, “While PS4 games will cease to be a primary offering, they will still make appearances on occasion. There’ll be some games compatible with both PS4 and PS5 available after the change.”
Michel also assured subscribers, “Rest easy, this won’t affect any PS4 games you’ve already redeemed on PlayStation Plus. You’ll continue to access those as long as you’re a member. As for the Game Catalog, PS4 titles will remain up for play until they cycle out during our monthly updates.”
