Helldivers 2’s modding scene has been buzzing with excitement lately, releasing some truly inventive content that fans of games like Crazy Taxi, and specifically Halo 3: ODST, will appreciate. The highlight of recent offerings is the debut of a full-fledged “Warbond” mod—potentially the first of its kind for the game. I have to say, it looks pretty impressive.
Before diving deeper, it’s important to clarify that this mod is more “Warbond-inspired” than a complete replica of the official Warbonds that Arrowhead releases. However, if your main interest lies in experimenting with new armor designs, this mod ticks all the right boxes.
The creator behind this innovative piece, modder Jayypino, has given it the moniker ‘Dogmatic Reach,’ a name that resonates clearly once you explore the mod. Essentially, it introduces a collection of new armor sets and helmets, merging elements from both Helldivers 2 and Halo 3: ODST. The result is a Spartan-esque look, striking a balance between fresh and familiar. Unlike mods that let you cosplay as Master Chief, this offers a subtler, more harmonious fusion. Jayypino describes it as “something different, but familiar,” featuring “custom vanilla styled textures” that align seamlessly with the game’s existing armors.
The new sets, which take the place of current in-game ones, come with alternate paint jobs. These range from fierce helmet designs to a distinct blue colorway, complementing another of Jayypino’s Warbond-style creations, The Grave Situation Team’s ‘SEAF Specialists.’
To give this mod a try, you’ll need the latest version of Teutinsa’s ‘HD2 Mod Manager.’ Once you have that set up, you can explore three exciting new armors: the Chimera, Hydra, and Cyclops sets.
But that’s just one part of the vibrant tapestry within the HD2 community recently. There’s been quite a buzz around a dataminer who claims to have unwittingly triggered a phenomenon akin to an Illuminate Aurora Borealis while experimenting with obelisks. Meanwhile, an aspiring artist has put together an intriguing 14-page concept for what an indoor dungeon mission might look like.
The creativity and enthusiasm within the Helldivers 2 modding community are truly inspiring, and I’m excited to see what they come up with next!
