Stress Level Zero has hit another home run with their physics-based sandbox follow-up, BONELAB (2022), performing exceptionally well on the Quest platform. However, fans have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of their earlier hit, the physics action-puzzler BONEWORKS (2019), on Meta’s latest standalone hardware. The good news? That wait is almost over.
For those who haven’t had the chance to play it with a PC VR headset, Boneworks is an exhilarating narrative-driven VR action-adventure. It expertly utilizes advanced experimental physics mechanics, offering a heart-pounding experience. Players are challenged to navigate dynamic environments while diving into physics-heavy combat scenarios, all the while solving puzzles with inventive flair.
In a recent update post, studio co-founder Brandon Laatsch shared some exciting 2025 goals. The roadmap includes ongoing development for the Marrow Engine’s physics framework, designed for the Unity engine, along with the release of Boneworks on Quest 3 and the upcoming Quest 3S.
Curious to see Boneworks in action on the Quest 3? Here’s a glimpse below:
Not only are they tackling the Marrow 2.0 release and the Boneworks adaptation simultaneously, but Laatsch also hinted at pre-production work for an upcoming game. It’s clear that the team has a lot on their plate.
Interestingly enough, Quest users have been sneakily enjoying Boneworks on Quest 2 and newer models with the help of a fan-made mod, aptly named ‘Labworks.’
Laatsch reassures fans that the studio won’t be taking down the Labworks mod, which indie modder ‘volx64’ dedicated two years to creating. He emphasizes that the Marrow Engine upgrade for Quest 3 will offer much more than just a simple port, promising transformative changes to the game.
While no release date has been announced yet, we’ll be eagerly watching Laatsch’s social media and the studio’s YouTube channel for any updates that may drop. Stay tuned!
