For enthusiasts of pinball and aficionados of Dungeons & Dragons, this stunning new pinball machine might just pique your interest, despite its hefty price tag.
I’ve always had a soft spot for pinball machines. They’re nostalgic treasures from another time but have somehow continued to evolve and become even more elaborate. If I had my way, I’d own one, just to save myself from spending a small fortune every time I play. Ironically, purchasing one, especially this newly unveiled Dungeons & Dragons-themed machine, would set me back even more financially. This particular machine, showcased in a video from Stern Pinball—the world’s largest pinball manufacturer—definitely lives up to its impressive billing.
This creation is the result of an official collaboration with Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, to celebrate the tabletop RPG’s 50th birthday. It promises an “epic and thrilling journey” through the forgotten realms, complete with iconic foes like the red dragon, gelatinous cube, and mimic. It also features legendary figures like Sammaster the lich, Xanathar the beholder, and owlbears, set against locations including Faerûn’s Arabel and Westgate. Plus, it boasts appearances from notable D&D figures like Critical Role’s Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, and Marisha Ray, alongside Luke Gygax, the son of Gary Gygax, who co-created the game.
A surprising addition to the voice cast is Gerard Way, from My Chemical Romance. I’m not entirely sure how he fits into this universe, but it’s an intriguing tidbit for anyone who does decide to purchase this machine. Ah, purchasing it—that’s the catch. This pinball machine isn’t just jaw-dropping in design but also in price.
If you’re considering it, the baseline Pro edition will cost you $7,000. Opting for the Premium version hikes the price up to $9,700. And if you’re eyeing the Limited Edition, prepare to shell out an eye-watering $13,000 for one of only 740 units. It’s an incredibly cool pinball machine, but I think I might sit this one out.
