VR enthusiasts know Blade & Sorcery as one of the top combat simulators out there. June 2024 marked its official 1.0 launch, but its developer, Warpfrog, is not resting on its laurels. They’ve hinted at diving headfirst into their next big project, promising it will be just as “highly moddable” as the hit physics game that put them on the map.
While the full details remain a bit of a mystery, Warpfrog has confirmed to Road to VR that this upcoming title will be another VR experience. Fans can expect the same signature Warpfrog style, with rich physics-based gameplay and a robust focus on simulation.
A significant part of what made Blade & Sorcery stand out was its modding capability. Players could easily tweak the game, whether manually adjusting files or using tools like the Nexus Mod Manager, making modifications from simple visual effects to complex custom maps and weapons.
Reflecting on their development journey, Warpfrog mentioned in an interview with Meta that they’re taking a fresh approach with the new game. Their aim? To leave behind old, tangled code and embrace a brand-new engine foundation. This new framework is set to be much quicker, and importantly, it’s designed for a larger team, marking their transition from a solo developer project to a full-fledged team endeavor.
With Blade & Sorcery evolving into a much richer narrative experience featuring modes like ‘Crystal Hunt,’ the original game’s solo melee skirmishes are now part of a broader adventure filled with upgrades and storytelling. It’s fair to say Warpfrog’s accomplishments have only fueled our excitement for what’s coming next.
Warpfrog shared on Steam, “The support we’ve received has enabled us to aim for bigger and better projects. Now, equipped with the knowledge we’ve accumulated over these five years, we can’t wait to reveal our next creation. The future is where the fun really starts.”
