We’re eagerly awaiting the first glimpse of James Gunn’s take on Superman, with the initial trailer set to debut later this week. In the meantime, though, Gunn has treated us to a preview of the film’s main theme.
At the moment, James Gunn is certainly feeling the pressure. As co-CEO of DC Studios, he’s steering the ship for the new DC Universe. This could either lead to a huge success or, if things don’t go well, might force DC to rethink their plans for a connected film universe—after all, there are only so many reboots an audience can handle, no matter what comic book lore suggests. On Gunn’s Twitter account, he announced that a teaser trailer for his Superman movie will be out this Thursday, giving fans a sneak peek at the new live-action DC Universe. It’s important to note that his animated series, Creature Commandos, is actually the inaugural project for this extensive film universe.
Until the trailer drops, Gunn has shared a snippet of what appears to be the movie’s main theme. You can check it out above, accompanied by a short loop of David Corenswet as Superman soaring upwards, with the music playing in the background. It’s a beautiful piece, evoking a gentle, nostalgic feel. If you listen carefully, you’ll notice a subtle nod to the legendary theme from Richard Donner’s 1978 Superman film, masterfully composed by John Williams.
This fresh theme has been crafted by John Murphy, a composer with a remarkable portfolio. He’s known for his work on films like 28 Days Later, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and more recently, The Suicide Squad, which was also directed by Gunn. This marks the third collaboration between Gunn and Murphy, following their work together on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
While the teaser trailer is just around the corner, fans will still need to wait a bit longer for the full film. Superman is slated for release on July 11 next year. But hang in there—it’ll be worth it!
